Just curious how everyone handles new clients. When do you present a client with comps, before or after they accept your proposal, or with the proposal?
I normally freelance for companies that feed me the work after they have already handled the proposals and contracts. I have some of my own clients, but I knew them prior to working with them as clients. Lately I've been picking up my new clients from outside of that circle, so now I need to be the one dealing directly with the potential client/stranger as opposed to someone that is already past the proposal/contract portion of the job.

So, how do you handle the comp or multiple comp situation?

Thanks in advance.

Keith Crusher • Comps usually come after the proposal is accepted. I almost always get wireframes or at least a simple hand drawn mockup of the site from the client beforehand and will occasionally put up a mock page design if it's either quick and easy or I'm trying to land a client that's on the fence.

I have a site that I use exclusively for this purpose so that I can easily change the theme, code, etc. to fit the look the client is going for. I will often install WP in subdirectories for different clients if I've got more than one pending at the same time.

Either that or I'll use Headspace 2, which allows for different themes or plugins per page, with the caveat that you can't quickly and easily style it without either creating a child theme or editing the CSS for the theme directly.
